What is this?

ladder.games helps you reach complex, heavy board games by showing you a pedagogical path — lighter games that teach the exact mechanics you'll need for your target game.

Every ladder is automatically generated from the game's core mechanics, then validated and curated. We never show you a rung we haven't verified.

Methodology

We use BGG's mechanic classification as a starting point, then apply a curated taxonomy of ~25 mechanic families. For each target game we run a greedy set-cover algorithm over our pool of lighter games to find the minimal, highest-quality learning path.

When no pool game exists to teach a mechanic, we show an honest "gap" rung rather than pretending the path is complete.
